Meet the alOt Team

What do you get? an introduction to the men, women, and turtles behind alOt

Here we are. Warts and all. Not that I think any of the team have warts, but if we did, now you can see and ask us about them.

When we launched alOt in 2007 we got right down to work making the best products for displaying apps on your PC. Ten million odd users later, we realize that we got so busy we forgot to introduce ourselves. Sorry about that. Well now we’ve added more pages to alOt.com so you can get to know us a little better and ask us some questions.

Visit our “Team” page to get to know the alOt crew.

Visit our “About Us” page to dive a little deeper into what we’ve been up to and to find out how to get in touch.

What we hope you come away with is that alOt is a small company doing big things out of the SoHo neighborhood of New York City. We are a diverse group of individuals with each person bringing their own character to the company and everything alOt does.

Now that you’ve met us, we’d love to hear from you. You can get in touch via Twitter or Facebook.

You have alOt more radio now

What do you get? a look at how alOt is providing more premium radio stations through the alOt Radio App

The alOt Radio App has quickly become a favorite download in the alOt app marketplace. We have a feeling it’s going to be even more popular now that we added a way to search for and enjoy 7,000 new , premium radio stations.

From classic rock to sports, alOt again built on the success of its PC radio app with this new access to more than 50,000 channels from across the world – including a way to find and listen to radio programming that before was only available on major media websites.

Working again with our favorite streaming radio aggregator, RadioTime, we developed a clever way for anyone to search, listen and bookmark their favorite terrestrial and Internet radio stations from any PC or laptop with the unique functionality and controls alOt apps provide – all in real time, without having to visit multiple websites or sign-up for multiple services.

The alOt Radio App was first released in late 2010 and skyrocketed to one of the most popular apps in the alOt app marketplace. Who knew radio would be so popular? With the additions announced today, we expect it to remain a favorite now that you can discover more radio programming from around the world.

While we added this unique way to access premium, third-party radio streams, we haven’t taken away any of the familiar use and control functions that make this app so popular. Keep reading →

The good, the bad, the browsers

What do you get? A look at the new versions of popular Internet browsers and alOt’s recommendations on which one may be best for you

Mozilla released Firefox 4  on March 22.  Microsoft released Internet Explorer 9 on  March 14.  Google updated Chrome  on March 8. That’s alOt of updates, which can mean alOt of confusion. so we wanted to share our thoughts on how each browser affects alOt customers.

The Good – New versions mean new bug fixes, better performance, and increased security. For developers in particular, new versions support new code (HTML5, new CSS, etc). All the new browsers also come with a host of new features.

The Bad – Each new browser  comes with a laundry list of new features, that really not everyone needed.  This is not necessarily a positive for some everyday users. For example, when I open my browser to check a sports score, I’m already getting what I want.  If a browser is going to change that experience it better be a positive change. Any change should increase my browsing experience – enough to outweigh my annoyance at change. We know our customers aren’t intentionally late to adopt browser upgrades, it’s often because the  payoff is not just worth it. I have already had to learn at least 4 versions of  Microsoft Word to do the exact same thing, and with every change it’s not getting any better.
